BU Splits Pair at PSAC Softball Championships
Game One
Game Two
LOCK HAVEN-- The Bloomsburg University softball team went 1-1 on the opening day of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) championships at Lock Haven. The Huskies won their opening game by a 3-1 score over Indiana (PA), then dropped a 3-0 decision to Lock Haven.
In the opening game of the tournament Bloomsburg, the number two seed from the Eastern Division, got all the runs it would need in the third inning when Danielle Lazorka (Williamsport/Jersey Shore) hit a two-run double to put Huskies on top 2-0 over the Crimson Hawks.
Bloomsburg made it 3-0 Tara Reed (Williamsport/Williamsport) singled home Tiff Corliss (Lewisburg/Lewisburg) who led of the inning with a double. In the circle senior Ashley Lynn (Riverside/Danville) earned her 21st victory on the year. Lynn allowed just five hits and one run while striking out eight and not walking a batter. Her eight strikeouts give her 636 for her career setting a new school mark and breaking the record of Tina Souders (1981-84).
Lynn did pitch out of two jams in the game. In the third inning she allowed a leadoff triple, but got the next three batters in order to end the threat. In the sixth, after surrendering a single and triple with one out which got IUP on the board, Lynn got the next two hitters in order ending that scoring opportunity.
In game two, the Lady Eagles Krisin Erb tossed a perfect game in a 3-0 win. Erb stuck out 10 on the way to the perfect game. LHU's three runs came off seven hits as the Lady Eagles were led by Erb and Ilia Lopez, who both went 2-for-3 at the plate. Bloomsburg pitcher Sheelin Fisher went the distance striking out five.
Bloomsburg, 45-8, will now face off against East Stroudsburg tomorrow at noon in an elimination game.
